5 A second series has not been confirmed Credit: SKY ATLANTIC How did season one end?

The Undoing spoilers follow - including its finale episode. After weeks of speculating, theorising and falling off the edge of our seats over the cliffhangers, The Undoing's ending finally aired. Hugh Grant's character Jonathan Fraser was unmasked in more ways than one, and confirmed to be the killer of Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis). In positively eery and terrifying scenes, his true narcissistic nature was laid bare for all to see, and his wife, Grace Fraser (played by Nicole Kidman), finally took the steps needed to release herself from his clutches. With Jonathan carted off in handcuffs, and no doubt facing a life behind bars, is there any scope for the story to continue into a second season?

"This is a tight story, which is why I think six hours is perfect," director Susanne Bier told EW in a recent interview, revealing that the episode count provided "a natural arc" for the story. So it's safe to say that The Undoing was originally approached as a limited series, with the desired number of episodes providing a complete narrative. Of course, HBO has been known to go back on its initial plans and extend into sequels if a show proves popular enough with audiences. The star-studded series is on track to become Sky Atlantic's highest-rated US drama (via Deadline), beating the premiere of a little show you may have heard of called Game of Thrones(!). With these statistics in mind, we wouldn't be too shocked to hear that The Undoing was going to make a comeback at some point in the future.

It's something that executive producer David E Kelley has refused to rule out completely (while still emphasising that it's not the plan right now). We're happy with the way it ended," Kelley told TVLine. " I said there wouldn't be [a second season of] Big Little Lies, so I won't say that now. Susanne Bier is hopeful, telling ET that she "would love" to tell more of the story in a second season. So, like thinking that Father Christmas is coming down the chimney, maybe we can do a season 2." The Undoing season 2 release date: When could we get more episodes? As we've emphasised above, a second run of the popular HBO/Sky drama hasn't been officially announced (and, at the moment, doesn't seem all that likely). The Undoing season 2 cast: Who would star? As the show went on, it became clearer and clearer that The Undoing was really all about her (and not her outwardly charming and magnetic husband, who commanded all the attention). Having said that, fans would probably want Hugh Grant's character to make a return too - even though he'd likely be sitting behind bars in an orange jumpsuit the whole time. Lily Rabe, whose character Sylvia was central to season one's final twist, would also likely be part of a continuation. Depending on the direction of the storyline, we might also expect to see Noma Dumezweni (Jonathan's fearless lawyer Haley Fitzgerald), Ismael Cruz Cordova (the husband to Elena) and Edan Alexander (who played Miguel Alves). The Undoing season 2 plot: What could it be about? As the final episode further underlined, The Undoing was really a story about how Grace was blind to her husband's dark and dangerous true nature. The first five episodes detailed her slowly putting the pieces together, with the cathartic finale bringing it to a climatic conclusion. While it's pure speculation at this point, we'd expect a second season to pick up with Grace and Henry, perhaps exploring how they are each coping with the seismic events of season one. The book on which the show is based does touch on how Grace started to rebuild her life and come into herself outside of her toxic marriage, so there could be some scope to weave that into a future on-screen story. The Undoing season 2 trailer: Where can I watch it? Unfortunately, with no season two yet confirmed, there isn't a new trailer to share with you. While we wait for further news, you can catch up with Digital Spy's exclusive interviews with the cast - including Hugh Grant and Noma Dumezweni. There's good news and bad news for fans of The Undoing. The good news is that the murder mystery has been resolved - meaning the agonising wait to know who killed Elena is finally over. Now, here comes the bad news. The Undoing has not been confirmed for a second series. The Undoing was written as a miniseries with a complete ending - based on Jean Hanff Korelitz's 2014 novel You Should Have Known. 5 The Undoing was written as a miniseries with a complete ending Credit: Splash News So, although a second series is a possibility, it seems unlikely that it will be airing anytime soon. What could happen in season 2? It's hard to say where a second season of the show could go - since the murder mystery has already been solved, and Jonathan is being taken to jail. However, the same situation happened to HBO series Big Little Lies, and although the murder was solved at the end of the series, the show was renewed to show the aftermath of Perry's death. So, a second series could show the implication of Elena's death and Jonathan's arrest on the Frasers. 5 A second series has not been confirmed Credit: SKY ATLANTIC How did season one end? Series one told the story of married couple Grace and Jonathan Fraser, who live an idyllic life in New York with their son, Henry. Grace (Nicole Kidman) is a high-profile couples therapist and and her husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) is a wealthy pediatric oncologist. Their seemingly happy life comes crashing down when Grace meets a woman named Elena (Matilda De Angelis) at a committee meeting at the prestigious school that their sons both attend. The last episodes featured a series of flashbacks revealing that it was indeed Jonathan who killed Elena all along - and fans were shocked at the bombshell. HBO's gripping whodunnit The Undoing reached an explosive conclusion last night, which saw the aftermath of Grace (Nicole Kidman) discovering the murder weapon in her son Henry's violin case before Jonathan (Hugh Grant) was revealed to be Elena Alves' murderer after all. While the main question behind the six-part drama has now been answered, viewers are wondering whether the Frasers may return for a second series – and the answer, according to creator David E. Speaking to TVLine, the writer and producer revealed that he was pleased with the show's ending, saying: "I think we're satisfied. We're happy with the way it ended." However, he added: "I said there wouldn't be [a second season of] Big Little Lies, so I won't say that now. 'It's all the drama Mick, I just love it!' In response to another question about the possibility that Grace's friend Sylvia could be Jonathan's late younger sister, Kelley added: "I think we'll write the sequel by committee if we do one. During last night's finale, viewers learned that Jonathan had in fact murdered Elena with a sculpting hammer after unsuccessfully attempting to end his affair with her, and that Henry had discovered the weapon at the family beach house before cleaning it and hiding it to protect his father.
