Two vehicles were involved in a crash on the southbound carriageway of the A12 just after junction 12 at Chelmsford Road for Mountnessing. Traffic is queuing five miles back to junction 13 for Ingatestone as a result. One lane remains blocked, which is affecting traffic heading towards Brentwood and London. The latest A12 crash happened just 18 hours after a 68-year-old woman from Colchester sadly lost her life in a fatal collision between junctions 16 and 17 near Howe Green.
Following that incident, the road remained closed for over six hours yesterday (Tuesday, May 15). Drivers are advised to plan ahead this morning to avoid causing further congestion. Soon after, officers received further reports of a lorry parked in a layby on the A12 northbound which was partially blocking one of the lanes. A spokesman for Suffolk police said officers were attending the scene. The incident happened shortly after 6am today on the southbound carriageway near junction 25. Two lanes have now been closed while the incident is dealt with. There are significant delays on the London-bound road with tailbacks stretching to junction 26 at Eight Ash Green, near Colchester, while Essex police attend the scene. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area while the delays continue. There is also heavy traffic on the northbound carriageway at the Copdock roundabout - London Road is closed for ongoing roadworks.
