A man has died following a single vehicle crash on the Southend-bound A127 at the Rayleigh Weir. Police were called at shortly after 3am today. Both carriageways were initially closed but the London-bound side has now re-opened. Police say they are expecting the Southend-bound carriageway to remain closed through much of this morning. Officers are advising drivers to avoid the area and plan their journey.

Emergency services were called to the Rayleigh Weir underpass, where the A127 meets the A129, at around 3am today (Monday, October 28). The single vehicle collision happened on the Southend bound carriageway, but the underpass was closed in both directions for a number of hours. The London bound carriageway reopened at around 7am, four hours following the accident, but the Southend bound carriageway remains closed while police continue their investigations.
Essex Police confirm the route is expected to be shut throughout the morning and drivers are warned to avoid the area and to seek an alternative route. Traffic on the A1245 is also slow as is traffic on the A129, London Road, and within the area.
