A45 road Accident Northampton

A 'multi-vehicle' accident has closed the A45 in one direction near Northampton this morning, Highways England has reported. UPDATE: All lanes are now open after the earlier accident In a tweet just before 7.30am, Highways England said:"#A45 eastbound is closed at Great Billing due to a multi vehicle collision. Emergency services are on scene working. The AA said: "Partially blocked and queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident on A45 Eastbound at B573 Northampton Road (Grendon / Earls Barton Turn Off). Congestion to Ecton, and westbound queues on the other side back to Great Doddington." The crash involved a lorry and four other vehicles - a white Ford Transit, a black Hyundai i20, a grey Mercedes CLS 320, and a blue Skoda Octavia. One man in the Ford Transit had to be extracted from the vehicle by a fire crew and has been taken to hospital after suffering neck pain. Police closed the road. The road fully re-opened at about 9.30am. A car has also broken down near to the crash. Earlier this morning at 6am police were also called to an incident on the A45 eastbound on the south side of Wellingborough.

The A45 eastbound is closed in Northamptonshire causing three miles of tailbacks back towards the M1. The closure is at the stretch between the A5076 and the B573 at Great Billing, near Northampton, due to a multi vehicle collision.
