The Frenchman keeps close tabs on his old club since his £20m to Lyon in August 2018. Dembele admitted he wished he could have linked up with Edouard earlier but he is convinced his pal has the tools to get to the top. He said: "The only bad point is that we didn't play together earlier. We knew that if we played together we'd do something good.
When he first came, he was a bit shy. "Because we come from the same place, I tried to help him, I gave him a lot of advice and after that he changed, from one player to another. The hit man was a smash his as the Hoops claimed back-to-back Trebles under Brendan Rodgers and Parkhead will always be in his heart. Dembele said: "Before I came, Celtic was just a big club. But once you step in, you realise that it's more than a football club. It made me grow as a player, as a man and made me see things differently from what I've seen before. "I think it was a really good experience. I wouldn't change it for anything. I'm a fan now. I follow every game because it was two fantastic years. "It is the greatest club in the world." Dembele has been in storming form with Lyon but admitted he missed the mayhem of the Glasgow Derby. The 23-year-old rattled a hat trick in his Old Firm debut and became a chief Rangers tormentor with seven goals in two campaigns. Dembele – speaking to BT Sport – said: "As soon as I signed for Celtic, the first thing they said is 'you have to beat Rangers'. It's a six or nine point game so you have to make sure, when you go on the pitch, you give it your everything: if you have to come off the pitch injured, you do it. "I think that's one of the best games I've played in in my whole career." Watch Nine in a Row, a look back on Celtic's 2019/20 season, Saturday at 9:45pm on BT Sport 1. News coming out of Madrid suggests that the club 'have offered' Zinedine Zidane the chance to sign the young Frenchman to bolster his squad for next season. According to Spanish football site Defensa Central, Zidane has received 'good reports' about Edouard from Madrid's sporting directors. Referring to the 22-year-old as 'the gem of the European market', Defensa Central (which has over six million followers on Facebook) report that Edouard has gained the attentions of the La Liga side - and a host of other clubs - thanks to his 28 goal return from 45 games this season. Defensa Central said: "Real Madrid are aware of the great interest that the footballer has generated in England, mainly, and in Europe. The footballer is very young, 22-years-old and has a lot of projection. "In addition, in France they see him as a footballer with the level to play in the national team and his price is not excessive, 25 million euros." Edouard has been a huge hit at the Scottish Premiership giants since arriving in a £9m move from Paris Saint Germain in 2018. This year he's managed 27 goals in 45 games in all competitions for Celtic, with his overall record for the club currently standing at 60 goals and 31 assists in 126 games. Those numbers have earned him admirers around Europe, particularly in the Premier League, with several clubs all thought to be keen. They report that the Spanish side have become 'aware' of the Frenchman, with those higher up the club offering him as an option to Zidane. He does not see the move with 'bad eyes', IE, he thinks it could be a good deal, with it explained that Celtic want at leas €25m for their man. Whether Madrid are willing to pay that, or if they'll ever make a bid, isn't mentioned, although it is made clear that it is Newcastle United who appear most likely to make a move at present.
