F1 hero Alex Zanardi remains in a serious condition following his handbike accident in the Italian town of Pienza. It is thought the 53-year-old collided with a truck during a national race for Paralympic athletes. Lewis Hamilton says sorry to Helmut Marko as Red Bull consider action Zanardi was airlifted to hospital and immediately underwent a two-and-a-half hour brain surgery. Santa Maria alle Scotte hospital in Siena, where the former motorsport star is being treated, released a statement this morning providing a health update. It read: "Regarding the clinical conditions of the athlete Alex Zanardi, hospitalised from 18 on 19 June in very serious conditions at the Santa Maria alle Scotte polyclinic following a road accident occurred in the province of Siena.
"The Health Directorate of the Aou Senese informs that the patient, subjected to a delicate neurosurgical intervention on the evening of 19 June, and subsequently transferred to intensive care, he has stable hemodynamic and metabolic parameters. "He is intubated and supported by artificial ventilation while the neurological picture remains serious."
