The Prime Minister has imposed strict restrictions on the movement of people during the lockdown. The quarantine measure came after thousands were pictured ignoring social distancing advice by visiting public places and parks in their droves over the course of the weekend amid the growing coronavirus pandemic. "The scale, vast network and business continuity expertise of our organisation means we have extensive experience in being able to quickly deploy plans so we continue to provide customers with access to our collection and delivery services, and their mail." Royal Mail has yet to make a further announcement in the wake of the lockdown. Post Office open: The Post Office is among the shops permitted to open in the lockdown Nick Read, the chief executive of the Post Office Group, posted an update on the company services during the pandemic online last week. The group has yet to give further details on its operations since Mr Johnson's announcement. The Post Office is among the shops permitted to open alongside supermarkets and other food shops, health shops, pharmacies including non-dispensing pharmacies, petrol stations, bicycle shops, home and hardware shops, launderettes and dry cleaners, garages, car rentals, pet shops, corner shops, newsagents and banks. A spokesman for the Post Office Group said: "The Post Office is the UK's biggest retail network with 11,500 branches. "The vast majority are run by franchise partners and independent retailers, eg. Convenience stores. It is up to each Post Office operator what hours they operate. "Post Office have been designated as an essential retailer by the UK Government. "The majority of Post Offices remain open, however if a branch has to close as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus, the Postmaster can display a poster advising that it is shut."
