Surgeons had to put the boy under general anaesthesia to remove the kernels (Picture EAST2WEST) An eight-year-old boy was made to kneel on raw buckwheat as punishment by his stepdad, who researched medieval torture methods online, authorities say. Sergey Kazakov, 35, who met the boy's mum Alina Yumasheva online, is accused of spying on the child using a webcam to make sure he stayed where he was. Now the couple from Omsk, Siberia, are due to go on trial for torture, deliberate infliction of moderate bodily harm and child welfare offences and could face up to seven years in prison. A 'sadistic' stepfather and mother are being investigated for torture after their eight-year-old boy had to have a crop of buckwheat surgically removed from his knees. Computer programming entrepreneur Sergey Kazakov, 35, forced the boy to kneel on the buckwheat for up to nine hours at a time, a court has been told. The unnamed child's mother Alina Yumasheva, 27, claimed she and Kazakov found the form of punishment on the internet and inflicted it on the child after he was late home from school and playing outside. After the horrific form of punishment was approved by the mum, grain seeds began taking root in the boy's bloody knees. The feeling was reportedly akin to kneeling on rough sandpaper, with reports of the boys crying: 'It hurts' as his stepdad kicked him.
The unnamed boy's mother, 27, claimed she and Kazakov found this form of punishment on the internet and inflicted it on the child after he was late home from school and playing outside. This was despite the boy pleading with his nurse in hospital: "Will you send me to live in a good family now?" The mother claimed the buckwheat "torture" didn't hurt, telling Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper: "I checked on it myself and set up an experiment. Kazakov told police he had inflicted the punishment once but a half dozen deleted videos were traced on his phone, say investigators. Kazakov - who runs his own company providing accounting programmes to companies - and Yumasheva are under investigation for torture, causing damage to the boy's health, and failure to properly educate the boy. The child's class teacher Olga Pidzhakova said the boy was academically bright but she believed he had been scared to complain.
"He is a good, positive child," she said. The "sadistic" parents of an eight-year-old boy are facing criminal charges after he had to have buckwheat surgically removed from his knees because he was made to kneel on the grain for so many hours that they embedded themselves inside his knee. As punishment, Kazakov made him kneel on buckwheat for up to nine hours at a time, leading the grain seeds to take root in his bloodied knees. The eight-year-old's mother, Alina Yumasheva, admitted she approved of the punishment after she and Kazakov found it on the internet and she tested it to ensure it didn't hurt. Kazakov was also accused of kicking the boy and pulling his hair while he was kneeling and starving him for up to four days at a time. The abuse finally came to light after the eight-year-old boy fled the family home and pleaded with one of his female neighbors for help, and she called the doctors after noticing the horrific injuries on his knees. When questioned, Kazakov admitted to the police that he had inflicted the buckwheat punishment just once, but was found to be lying after investigators recovered several more deleted videos from his phone. Olga Pidzhakova, the boy's teacher, said he was academically bright but was possibly too scared to complain against his parents. Both Kazakov and Yumasheva are under investigation for torture, causing damage to the boy's health, and failure to properly educate the boy and are facing trial in Omsk. The 35-year-old is being held in jail, while Yumasheva was ordered to not leave their home pending the outcome of the police investigation. After spending a month in the hospital, the boy was returned to the care of his mother despite pleading with a nurse in the hospital to "send me to live in a good family now."
