Chelsea are reportedly battling it out with Premier League rivals Manchester United for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare. According to Sky Sports, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Valencia are no longer in the pursuit for the 20-year-old. It is understood that Chelsea and United are left in pole position for his signature, with both teams already holding talks about the player. The report explains that a decision over his future will not be made until Lille play Paris Saint-Germain on 26 January, but that he's "expected" to exit the French side. Soumare has been an ever-present in a Lille team that sit fifth in Ligue 1 this season and also competed in the Champions League group stages, but failed to qualify ahead of Chelsea or Ajax.
The France Under-21 international is a serious talent being tipped with a move to the Premier League and he look like he could thrive in English football. He is a defensive midfielder with a real physical presence, but he's a great dribbler too and takes care of possession so well. Chelsea are already stacked with a number of options in the centre of the park, but Soumare does look like a rising talent that could be worth investing in if they can beat United to his signature. Frank Lampard's squad does already possess the likes of N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Ross Barkley. But the Lille powerhouse would add some extra steel to the midfield and is an intriguing January target.
