Colchester United F.C. Ipswich Town F.C. Yeovil Town F.C.

Lee Burge: 4/10 Struggled with his kicking, and let the ball roll under his body for Scunthorpe's second. Luke O'Nien: 3/10 Started the game well and should have won an early penalty. Regressed from there making a series of poor lapses in concentration culminating with his needless foul to gift the Irons a penalty. Jordan Willis: 3/10 As poor as he's been all season passing the ball, made a couple crucial defensive interventions, but an awful technical performance. Joel Lynch: 4/10 Looked a step slow all night, both in his defending and progressing the ball under pressure.

PLAYER RATINGS: Scunthorpe 3-0 Sunderland - Here’s how the Lads rated after EFL Trophy shocker

Like his defensive partner, Lynch's passing was abysmal. Denver Hume: 4/10 Arguably Sunderland's best player in possession, Hume did leave the Sunderland defence exposed, and Scunthorpe United clearly targeted the space he vacated wandering forward. Grant Leadbitter: 2/10 Started well, but like O'Nien, Sunderland's all round lethargy started to wear off on him, poor with both his short and long distance passing. George Dobson: 4/10 Improved after half-time, and played one gorgeous through ball to Watmore. Still goes through phases in games where he lets himself down both with and without the ball. Max Power: 4/10 Power was largely a spectator unable to influence the match. Duncan Watmore: 2/10 Watmore's form since he eviscerated Tranmere Rovers has been so poor I'm starting to think the Rovers game was an optical illusion. His touch was non-existent and the former England under 21 star looked completely unprepared for the physicality of men's football. Aiden McGeady: 4/10 His final ball was missing, and Sunderland's lack of control meant McGeady went through large stretches of the game, without even touching the ball. Marc McNulty: 3/10 The service up to him was terrible, but McNulty still could and should have competed more. On the odd occasion a teammate did fire a pass into his vicinity McNulty quickly turned the ball back over to the Irons. (SUB) Laurens De Bock: 4/10 Looked mildly competent playing out of position, made a couple smart interceptions and decent clearances. (SUB) Chris Maguire: 4/10 Gave away the ball a bunch of times.
