Firefighters from across Staffordshire tackled a major fire at Drayton Manor theme park. Officers from Tamworth, Mercia, Chase Terrace, Burton on Trent, Cannock and Barton Under Needwood were at the scene into the early hours of Wednesday, December 16. There was no confirmation of how it started but the theme park's zoo animals were not affected. The blaze is thought to have started in a toilet block at the attraction in Tamworth, Staffordshire.
Six fire crews from Tamworth, Mercia, Chase Terrace, Burton on Trent, Cannock and Barton Under Needwood raced to the scene to battle the flames at 11pm. None of the 100 animals living on the premises were injured and the fire was brought under control by midnight. The site is currently closed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Drayton Manor tweeted on Tuesday evening: 'We can confirm that we currently have a number of fire crews on site at the park. Advertisement 'Since being made aware of the blaze, we have been in close contact with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, who have advised us that the situation is now, thankfully, under control.

The fire service sent several crews to the blaze at the Staffordshire theme park last night (December 15). The park has said there were no injuries and all of its animals are safe. Shortly after 11pm, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "Fire crews from Tamworth, Mercia, Chase Terrace, Burton on Trent, Cannock and Barton Under Needwood are currently dealing with a large fire within the grounds of Drayton Manor. "Please keep windows and doors closed." The blaze is thought to have broken out in a toilet block at the Tamworth attraction. A statement from Drayton Manor posted on social media said: "We can confirm that we currently have a number of fire crews on site at the park. "Since being made aware of the blaze, we have been in close contact with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, who have advised us that the situation is now, thankfully, under control. It added: "No one has been injured and all of the Park's animals are safe. "It is not yet safe for us to survey the damage. For now, we echo the advice to local residents to keep doors and windows closed, and thank all those involved in the swift and effective response." The theme park keeps around 100 animals on its premises but is currently closed due to the pandemic.
