DC Fandome wouldn't be complete without Dwayne Johnson showing some muscle on social media. The Fast & Furious actor, who is making his DC superhero debut in the New Line movie next year, dropped a teaser for DC Fandome confab tonight with a quick look at his get-up. "The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change. Black Adam arrives TOMORROW at #DCFandDome. #ManInBlack #BLACKADAM," tweeted Johnson.
The movie opens Dec. 22, 2021. Black Adam, an anti-hero, is a spinoff of Shazam!. Johnson was initially going to play Black Adam in that movie, but that didn't happen. Jaume Collet-Serra, who worked with Johnson on Disney's Jungle Cruise, is directing Black Adam. The movie is cleared to shoot in Georgia early next year.
As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be. But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero I could never be. I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority.
We're still a day out from our first real look at Dwayne Johnson's upcoming DC Comics movie "Black Adam," but on Friday the actor treated fans to an appetizer in the form of a super short teaser for the movie's DC FanDome panel. The "Black Adam: costume came 22 seconds in, during a literal blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but because we care and we know you don't have super vision, we've nabbed a screenshot of the image. And watch the full teaser below now: The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change. He's coming to crush them all. #ManInBlack #BLACKADAM pic.twitter.com/2jiHT62jED — Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) August 22, 2020 Though the character is one of Shazam's greatest enemies, Johnson didn't show up as Black Adam in David F. Sandberg's "Shazam!" last year. The explanation at the time was that both characters required their own introduction in separate films. But as you can see in the image above, they're not exactly hiding the connection: Black Adam has his own version of the signature lightning bolt logo on his chest. And in "Shazam," Black Adam was teased when the Wizard first summons Billy Batson to the Rock of Eternity, and tells the story of a champion he had selected thousands of years earlier, who became a force for evil and destruction instead of good. A golden hologram appears inside the Rock of Eternity as the Wizard tells the story, clearly showing the previous champion to be Black Adam. More to comes… DC FanDome is mere hours away and for fans of all things DC, the excitement is palpable. In fact, the excitement has grown so large, some of those involved in the virtual convention can't help but spoil some details beforehand, including Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson. Friday evening, the Hollywood superstar took to his Instagram account to share yet another look at the antihero he's been attached to play for the better part of a decade. In what's arguably the best look of the character we've gotten yet, Black Adam is wearing a costume about as comic-accurate as they come — complete with the black suit and gold lightning insignia. "The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change," Johnson writes. "BLACK ADAM arrives tomorrow at #DCFanDome. "Black Adam has been with me for over ten years now," Johnson told fans of his involvement in the project earlier this year. "And that gives you an idea of how passionate I am with this project, how passionate our Seven Bucks is about this project. Warner Brothers, New Line Cinema, DC, they have been so incredibly supportive over the years. This has been over 10 years. In 2008, we started talking about this, so it has required a patience by all of us as partners and I am a much different man and an actor than I was 10 years ago." Black Adam is currently set for release on December 22, 2021 though it's unclear if that will change due to coronavirus-related production delays. As it stands now, only Johnson and Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher) have been attached to the project. Disclosure: ComicBook is owned by CBS Interactive, a division of ViacomCBS. Black Adam has been on his way to the big screen for the longest time, as Dwayne Johnson has been attached to the role ever since 2014. Due to ever-evolving plans at DC and The Rock's busy schedule, however, we've yet to see the anti-villain appear in the DCEU. But Adam is finally about to make his impact on the franchise in his very own movie, as directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. And now, at long last, we have a very tantalizing, and very brief look at Johnson in character as the ruler of Kahndaq. The below sneak peek at The Rock in costume as Teth-Adam was revealed on his Instagram page tonight, ahead of what'll no doubt be an even meatier reveal tomorrow at DC FanDome. It's not much, but it does serve as one of the few pieces of promo material we've seen from the movie and teases how Johnson will look in the titular role. Though Adam is traditionally Shazam's nemesis, don't expect him to battle Zachary Levi's Billy Batson in Black Adam, as their face-off is being saved for Shazam! 3. Instead, the Justice Society of America will be introduced into the DCEU as his heroic foils for the movie. Hawkman is expected to be depicted as the leader of the team, with Warner Bros. looking for a big name to go toe-to-toe with The Rock. Ryan Reynolds was rumored, but the Deadpool star has officially ruled himself out of the race. The film was supposed to start shooting this summer, but obviously that wasn't possible due to the pandemic. Now, shooting won't start until early 2021. Johnson has been keeping himself in super shape, though – shocking no one – so we've already got a feel for how huge he's going to be in the role. Get ready, guys – Black Adam is finally coming. Dwayne Johnson has given fans their first look at him in the upcoming DC Universe movie Black Adam! The movie is a spinoff of the 2019 hit Shazam. If you didn't know, Dwayne was in talks to play Black Adam as the movie's villain, but that didn't end up coming to fruition. Now, the character is getting his own movie. Dwayne announced the film last year and said, "Black Adam is blessed by magic with the powers equal to Superman, but the difference is he doesn't toe the mark or walk the line. He's a rebellious, one-of-a-kind superhero, who'll always do what's right for the people — but he does it his way. Truth and justice — the Black Adam way. This role is unlike any other I've ever played in my career and I'm grateful to the bone we'll all go on this journey together." Ahead of the DC Fandom event this weekend, Dwayne shared a teaser video that gave a very brief glimpse if him as the character! "The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change," he wrote on Instagram. "Black Adam arrives tomorrow at #DCFanDome. Personally, I salute my Warner Bros and DC partners for creating this historic opportunity for fans to absorb our entire DC universe while we all continue to manage the challenges of COVID. The man in black is coming to crush them all." The Black Adam movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 22, 2021. Dwayne celebrated a very special day this week and his wife dropped something to mark the occasion.
