The Grantchester actor Emma Corrin has been cast as Diana, Princess of Wales in the fourth season of the critically acclaimed series The Crown after she "immediately captivated" casting directors. She said: "I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I'm now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. She joins a cast including Olivia Colman who replaces Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth in the third series, to be screened later this year, and Helena Bonham Carter who is to play Princess Margaret. The series creator Morgan said: "Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us all when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer. Newcomer Emma Corrin has been cast as Princess Diana in the fourth season of The Crown.

"Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring," she said. The Crown's creator Peter Morgan described Corrin as a "brilliant talent" who "immediately captivated" casting directors. She becomes the latest actress to join the revolving cast of The Crown, as the show jumps forward in time with different stars playing the Royals every two seasons. Corrin, meanwhile, will begin by dramatising Princess Diana's failed marriage to Prince Charles during the years of Margaret Thatcher's government. Yet Emma Corrin is destined to become a household name, having been cast in the coveted role of Lady Diana Spencer in lavish Netflix drama The Crown. The 23-year-old, who has thus far graced television screens in just one episode of ITV drama Grantchester, will join the prestigious cast for the fourth season alongside acting royalty including Olivia Colman, who will play the Queen. Corrin said she was "overjoyed, over the moon and incredibly honoured" to have been cast in the role of the future Princess of Wales. In the show's upcoming third season, Olivia Colman will be taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy, with Tobias Menzies set to play Prince Philip. Corrin, a Cambridge graduate, will make her film debut this year in Misbehaviour, according to Entertainment Weekly, before taking on the role of Princess Diana, the former wife of Prince Charles who died in a car accident in August 1997. Netflix announced Tuesday that newcomer Emma Corrin will be playing Lady Diana Spencer — who would go on to become Princess Diana following her marriage to Prince Charles — in Season 4 of The Crown.
