A huge fire has broken out at an industrial estate this morning sending plumes of smoke billowing across parts of Merseyside. Fire crews are currently tackling the fire on Sankey Valley Industrial Estate in Newton-le-Willows, St Helens this morning. They were called to the blaze at 11.08am and arrived on scene at 11.15 with four fire engines. A large volume of smoke is coming from the fire and businesses and residents living nearby are being urged to keep their windows and doors shut. Six fire crews are currently tackling a huge fire at an industrial estate near Wigan. The blaze broke out at Sankey Valley Industrial Estate in Newton-le-Willows just after 11am.

Firefighters are currently tackline the blaze on Sankey Valley Industrial Estate. FIFTEEN fire crews are currently fighting a fire on Sankey Valley Industrial Estate in Newton-le-Willows. Firefighters were called just before 11.10am and on arrival crews found a large fire approximately 30m x 15m. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently tackling the fire using a main branch.
A large volume of smoke is being produced by the fire. Nearby businesses and residents should keep windows and doors closed. Smoke can be seen from other towns such as Wigan and across the borough. Anyone if existing medical conditions should keep medicine nearby. If any ill effects occur, please call NHS 111. The incident is ongoing.
