FIREFIGHTERS remain at the scene of an industrial estate that was engulfed by a huge fire yesterday. Overnight, crews carried out hot spotting and damping down operations at the fire-hit section of plastics recycling firm Venture Polymers at the Sankey Valley industrial estate. The fire service announced shortly after 10pm last night that the main blaze had been extinguished. At its height, 20 fire crews were tackling the blaze and an enormous plume of smoke billowed into the skies. The black cloud could be seen right across the North West.
