BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment The Game Awards 2020 recently took place and it was a pretty meh event. While the co-op Evil Dead game for 2021 was a welcomed surprise, there are many who were disappointed not to see Elden Ring. This has resulted in some people asking is Elden Ring cancelled, and here you'll find the latest that has been shared in regard to when it may come out with Phil Spencer claiming to have played quite a bit. Aside from the absence of FromSoftware, another disappointing no-show for the Game Awards was Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid Remake. There were rumours about both of these games appearing at Geoff Keighley's annual celebration of the industry, but – unfortunately – nothing happened which could be due to their announcements being intended for a Sony State of Play.
While Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid Remake were big omissions, FromSoftware fans who were disappointed by the absence of Elden Ring can some find solace below by knowing that it is not cancelled. Elden Ring is not cancelled. There has been no news of Elden Ring being cancelled, but there is better news in Microsoft boss Phil Spencer claiming to have played it. Speaking to Gamespot in November, Phil Spencer was rather vague but he claimed to have seen and "played quite a bit" of the game. In addition, he said that it is clearly Hidetaka Miyazaki's "most ambitious game," which is considerable hype seeing as the Microsoft boss also claims to have played many FromSoftware titles over the past decade. While fans can sleep safe in sound knowing that the game is not cancelled and that it does exist, there is nothing more tangible than rumours for when it will come out. ResetEra insider Taepo (per Altchar) has said that the game was intended for early 2021, but that it could've been delayed by two to three months due to Covid-19 and the challenges of working from home. This suggests Elden Ring could come out in May or June next year, but this is nothing official and is merely rumours. With how Cyberpunk 2077 was handled with multiple delays and arguably being released too early, the lack of news and a release date for Elden Ring is probably good as it means there's no pressure on the development team to deliver anything before they're ready.
