Highways England is advising drivers that "delays are building on approach".

Drivers heading to the M23 are warned traffic is getting bad as two lanes have been closed due to a crane falling off the back of a vehicle. Lanes are shut southbound between Junction 8 (for the M25) and Junction 9 (Gatwick Airport) on Tuesday afternoon (December 4). Highways England is advising drivers that "delays are building on approach". A tweet by Highways England at 4.44pm states: "Two lanes (of three) are closed on the M23 southbound...due to a crane which has fallen off the back of a low-loader in the roadworks. "Delays are building on approach.

Please bear in mind if heading to the airport this afternoon." An online traffic reporting service says traffic is bad on the M25 as a result, with queues as far back as Junction 6 (Godstone) heading clockwise and to Junction 8 (Reigate) heading anticlockwise.
