Yet who, after watching Hugh Grant: A Life on Screen, could fail to rather like him? I even include those who called him a smug, entitled Remainer liberal and who fell about laughing when every candidate he supported in the general election lost. Because what this programme showed, dammit, is that Grant is funny, self-deprecating and doesn't appear to take himself too seriously — that's all the British really ask of anyone.
