You might be asking yourself, what is Galentine's Day? Well, it's just "the best day of the year." While everyone focuses on buying Valentine's Day gifts and flowers, women are plotting out their share of fun things to do on Galentine's Day. In the past decade, the female-friendly holiday which falls on Feb. 13, has grown in popularity. It's a day when you ditch the guys and celebrate your most coveted friendships. Maybe you gather for lunch, happy hour or a movie night. In some circles, it's called Palentine's Day. The holiday was introduced in 2010 through the sitcom "Parks and Recreation." The show's protagonist Leslie Knope, played by former SNL star Amy Poehler, celebrated her friends with a mimosa brunch in the episode called "Galentine's Day." Knope explained it best: "Oh, it's only the best day of the year.
Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas." Of course, marketing gurus use the holiday to push everything from restaurant deals (Starbucks has a BOGO happy hour today from 2 -7 p.m.) to a line of Galentine's Day Hallmark cards.
