Juice Wrld dies, aged 21 The rapper Juice Wrld has died, aged 21. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, pending an autopsy, although TMZ reports that he had a seizure in Chicago's Midway Airport yesterday morning. Real name Jarad Higgins, as a child he was forbidden from listening to rap and – although he did later discover rap and hip hop – the future rapper first developed his passion for music through the pop punk and rock music he heard in video games. In a statement yesterday, following confirmation of the rapper's death, Interscope said: "Juice made a profound impact on the world in such a short period of time. He was a gentle soul, whose creativity knew no bounds, an exceptional human being and artist who loved and cared for his fans above everything else".
"To lose someone so kind and so close to our hearts is devastating", the label went on. "Our thoughts are with Juice's family and friends … and his millions of fans around the world". Thomas Scherer of Higgins' publishing company BMG also paid tribute to the rapper, saying in a statement: "Juice Wrld is one of the most ambitious, dynamic, and prolific artists of his time, with a unique style all his own. "He had a vibrant soul, an authenticity full of energy, love, curiosity and music", Scherer added. We are absolutely devastated and mourn the loss of a young bright star gone far too soon".
Those offering tributes in the wake of his death include both his publisher, BMG, and his record label, Interscope (who issued Juice WRLD's recordings in tandem with label Grade A). BMG is the publisher of the entire songwriting catalog of Juice WRLD, including his Platinum-certified debut album Goodbye & Good Riddance, plus his 2019 No.1 follow-up, Death Race For Love. Chance The Rapper, writing on Twitter, called Juice WRLD a "young legend", while Lil Nas X noted that it was "so sad how often this is happening lately to young talented rising artists". The rapper, whose real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins, had just turned 21 on Dec 2 and was in a private hangar at the airport when an unexpected cardiac situation arose that caused him to convulse. Police are waiting for the medical examiner to determine the 21-year-old's cause of death and they've added that foul play is not suspected. Higgins was signed to Interscope Records in March 2018 after scoring hits on SoundCloud with "Lucid Dreams" and "All Girls Are the Same." SoundCloud says Higgins was the most streamed, liked and reposted artist on its platform in 2018 and "Lucid Dream" scored the most plays of any song last year. Members of the music industry have been using social media to post condolences and tributes to the late artist.
