The challenges don't get much tougher, though, as they welcome unbeaten league-leaders Liverpool to Villa Park. Jurgen Klopp's men have won nine of their 10 Premier League fixtures this season and have a six-point lead at the top over nearest challengers Manchester City. Back-to-back wins for Dean Smith's men was followed up by a defeat at the Citizens last time out – but supporters are in confident mood ahead of today. Here's what the Villa fans are saying on social media...

@footymadluke123: A few have asked me I am scared of Liverpool's team. No because I know what we're capable of. Defend well and hit them on the break because that's where we're most dangerous. As I said previously losing against City and Liverpool won't define the rest of the season. @JaceOMac: Not the greatest weather for match day but it is what it is.

Hoping Villa get the result today. @lamb_pants: After a pretty flat atmosphere on Wednesday, Dean has called for VP to be rousing 'like Everton or West Brom in the semi' - Well, you can count on me. Just got my shouting shirt out of the wash. @chrisrowley4: On the way to Villa Park from Bournemouth in the wind and rain to watch my beloved @AVFCOfficial.. Someone has to beat Liverpool so it might as well be us.

@CaptainScott87: Would anyone else maybe consider Kodjia for a start on the wing against Liverpool today? Might give us a little bit more to aim at in terms of holding onto the ball. You know he will raise his game in terms of workrate as well. Defensively we will have to be on to form and Wesley will need to play well. But with Grealish in your side... you always have a chance. @Dean12575116: This is the big game I was looking forward to the most getting back in the prem. So many mates who are LFC fans, would absolutely love it if we beat them. Liverpool go to Aston Villa seeking to prolong a 27-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, and maintain their six-point lead over Manchester City ahead of next weekend's clash with the reigning champions. Jurgen Klopp's side have won nine and drawn one of their 10 top-flight matches so far this season, with the German restoring several of his senior stars to the team after they were rested for the midweek Carabao Cup clash with Arsenal. The Reds will face Villa in the next round of that competition, and head to the Midlands to face a home side sitting 15th in the table. Dean Smith's men beat Wolves 2-1 in the Carabao Cup in midweek, and have only lost once at home in the league this season. Follow all the action as it happens right here...
