Two lorry drivers killed after serious collision on M1 motorway near Milton Keynes

Bedfordshire Police said the southbound carriageway will remain closed until further notice while investigations are underway. The road closure affected traffic heading to the FA Cup matches between Watford and Tranmere and Fulham and Aston Villa, and fans returning home have been advised to use alternative routes. Officers were called just before 6.45am on Saturday to reports of a crash between two lorries on the M1 southbound between Junction 13 near Milton Keynes and Junction 12 for Flitwick. Emergency services attended and both drivers of the lorries were pronounced dead at the scene. The southbound carriageway remains closed until further notice so police are able to carry out further recovery and investigative work.

Sergeant Aaron Murphy from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "This was a serious collision which has taken the lives of two people so we are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage from around that time, so we can piece together the circumstances which led to this tragic incident. The northbound and southbound carriageways between junction 12 at Flitwick and junction 13 near Milton Keynes were closed after the collision in the aftermath of the crash, Highways England said. Police say the southbound carriageway will remain closed "until further notice", but the northbound carriageway has since reopened. The Highways Agency said on its website: "Bedfordshire Police are conducting collision investigations due to the seriousness of the incident.

Two lorry drivers have died in a major crash on the M1 near Bedford, police say. The HGVs crashed on the motorway's southbound carriageway at about 6.40am on Saturday, Bedfordshire Police said.
