Madalyn Davis, 21, was a few weeks into a backpacking trip which had already seen her visit Thailand and Bali. But at about 6.30am on Sunday, January 12, emergency services were called to the Diamond Bay clifftops in Vaucluse, eastern Sydney, following reports that a woman had fallen off the cliff. A body was retrieved from the water about four hours later. Naming the woman as Madalyn Davis, the Sydney Morning Herald said she had been at a party in Vaucluse on Saturday night and was believed to have been one of a group of people who went to the clifftops to watch the sunrise.
Miss Davis was a make-up artist with her own YouTube channel 'Madalyn davis MUA', as well as more than 14,000 followers on her Instagram page. She attended Retford Oaks Academy (formerly Retford Oaks High School) in Retford, and then the Priory Lincolnshire School of Science and Technology in Lincoln. She was reported to have been living in Lincoln prior to her trip. This morning Heather Widdup, Senior Principal at Retford Oaks Academy, said: "It is with great sadness that we have learned of the very untimely passing of one of our former students. "Madalyn was a much liked, popular and well-respected member of the academy community, with many of our staff team recalling her time at Retford Oaks fondly. "Madalyn joined the academy in the latter stages of her secondary education, had a keen interest in and an obvious talent for art and design, and had done well in her GCSEs. "Our deepest condolences go out to Madalyn's family and friends at this very difficult time." People have also been paying tribute to her on social media. "You were an incredibly beautiful model and talented artist giving so much colour to the world," said one person on Instagram. "You were so fun to be with that so many people have so many great stories and memories they tell about you. You will be so very sorely missed. Thinking of your family and close friends in this devastating time." And someone who said he had had been at a party with her the night she died said on Facebook: "You will be missed so much you was always the life of any party and could make anyone smile. Absolute joy to party with, someone who brought smiles and laughter to everything we did, and someone that has left us way too soon."
