The aircraft, which had four passengers on board at the time, including Liverpool FC director Mike Gordon, sped off the runway and landed on a plot of grass at around 6am this morning, December 11. No one was injured during the incident but the runway was closed while a specialist was called to assess the situation and determine how to move the aircraft safely. The closure caused chaos at the airport this morning, as hundreds of passengers arrived to find that their flights had been cancelled and their travel plans disrupted. Flights to destinations including Phaphos, Belfast, Barcelona, Madrid and Amsterdam were cancelled this morning, leaving disappointed passengers late to business meetings, holidays and birthday celebrations.

More flights cancelled at Liverpool John Lennon Airport after plane skids off runway

At around 9.30am a number of passengers travelling on Ryan Air flights to Phaphos and Dublin, were taken via coaches to Manchester Airport to catch alternative flights. And a short time later, passengers travelling on some easyJet services were also taken to Manchester Airport. However, others were left feeling frustrated as they waited for more information on what was going on. There has not yet been any update as to when the airport may re-open. Passengers left confused waiting for flight updates Speaking the ECHO this morning, Graham Daives, from Birkenhead, said: "It's not like me to get angry but there's been no staff to talk to at all. We waited for 2 hours to get our bags back." Graham said he arrived in the airport at 1am and slept there overnight to catch his 6am flight to Paphos this morning because there is no public transport after midnight and he doesn't drive. However, half an hour after boarding the plane this morning, Graham said he the cabin crew told them what had happened. "So we stood waiting to get our bags back for over an hour. Not a single member of staff from the airport or the airline were there to help us, it's a joke. "There was a girl on the plane who was due to take her exams in Paphos this afternoon and now she's missed them and a woman who had to go to work. He added: "I'm due to come back on Saturday, they'll be no point in me going at this rate." Graham was one of a number of people who told the ECHO that no one was there to help them after the cancellations were announced. "It's my birthday tomorrow which we were supposed to be celebrating in Madrid" Ruth, from Bolton, who was supposed to be travelling to Madrid this morning with her partner Matrin, to celebrate her birthday tomorrow, said no one told them that their flight at 11.25 had been cancelled, until they got through security. Ruth said: "We checked in as normal and went through security. It wasn't until I looked at the board that it said it'd be cancelled and I turned to my husband and said 'wait what?" "We tried to find someone to talk to but once you get through security there is no help desk for you to talk to. "Then we were called to gate two and someone from Easy Jet read out a list of the flights that had been cancelled but no one told us where we could go or what we could do. "Ruth added: "It's my birthday tomorrow which we were supposed to be celebrating in Madrid and now we're going lose loads of money and our hotel as well. No one has told us if we can get another flight or if we can go from Manchester." Melissa Cox, 20, from Bootle was also heading off on holiday to Amsterdam to celebrate her birthday with her boyfriend Daniel Thomas, when they found out their flight was one of those that had been cancelled. Speaking to the ECHO at the airport this morning, Daniel said: "We've been here since 5am this morning to catch our flight at 7:30am. Then we were told we would be put on the 12:05 flight instead but now that's been cancelled too. "We've been through security twice now and we can't get another flight today in Liverpool or Manchester because they're all booked up. "We've tried to book onto another flight tonight going from here or from Manchester but they'll all booked up. "There's no one to talk to, it's ridiculous. We've been queuing up trying to find out what's going on all morning and all we've been given is a £6 voucher to spend in the shop." (Image: ECHO) A spokesperson for Liverpool John Lennon Airport this morning, said: "We can confirm there was an incident at around 6am this morning when a private jet with three crew and one passenger on board came off the runway after landing. "There were no injuries and the runway is expected to be closed until this afternoon while the Airport deals with the incident. "Anyone travelling from the airport today is advised to contact their airline for the latest information. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused and can assure customers we are doing all we can to resume services as quickly as possible. Further updates to follow." And shortly after 11am this morning, Paul Staples, Airport Operations Director for Liverpool John Lennon airport, said: "We've got a specalist company on site at the moment who are assessing how difficult it is to move the aircrafft and then they'll move the aircraft for us. "We are trying to return to operations as quickly as we can and we hope to have an update within an hour or so, as to when that might be."
