Traffic has been brought to a standstill on the A1(M) this evening due to a "major vehicle collision". There are long delays on the southbound lanes between junction seven near Stevenage and junction six at Welwyn Garden City this evening (Tuesday October 15). Highways England have described it as a "major" incident.

All A1(M) traffic is being held on the southbound route of the motorway this evening following a crash. One lane of the northbound road is also closed due to the incident, (lane two of two). It is believed the accident happened at around 6pm today, Tuesday, October 15, and it is currently ongoing nearly one hour later. Cars are stuck in several miles of queues and motorists should expect major delays in both directions. The crash is believed to have happened between Woolmer Green and Welwyn Garden City, affecting junction 6 and junction 7. This will affect anyone travelling between Welwyn by Pass Worad and Stevenage South, or motorists wanting to connect to Broadhall Way and the A602. There is now six miles of congestion, from Welwyn to Stevenage on the southbound route. We'll bring you more with this story below when we get it.
