BERLIN, Feb. 14 (Xinhua)--Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways after beating uninspired Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 on three second half goals at the curtain raiser of 22nd round in Bundesliga on Friday. The "BVB" moved on the second place of the standings and recorded their 12th win of the season as goals from Lukasz Piszczek, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Raphael Guerreiro secured all three points on home soil. After the restart, Lucien Favre men's started where they left off and doubled the lead five minutes into the second half when Sancho made the most out of Axel Witsel's through ball to beat Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp from tight angle. The "Eagles" lacked in penetration and were unable to put up resistance as Dortmund extended their advantage through Haaland, who scored his fourth goal in his eighth appearance in the 54th minute. The following games are scheduled for Saturday: third placed Leipzig host struggling Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim face Wolfsburg, Augsburg meet Freiburg, last placed Paderborn encounter Hertha Berlin, newly promoted Union Berlin clash with Bayer Leverkusen and relegation threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf see Borussia Monchengladbach.
ERLING HAALAND has hit back at suggestions he demanded a massive wage to join Borussia Dortmund. Having snubbed Manchester United and RB Leipzig when leaving Salzburg in January, the striker insists he only ever wanted to join the Bundesliga giants. As negotiations took place late last year, reports in Germany told of a £6.65million-a-year salary demanded by Haaland, 19. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coached the teen prodigy during their days at Molde and was heavily linked with a bid once Haaland broke out at Salzburg. A tally of 28 goals across the first half of the season in Austria, including five hat-tricks, set the world alight.
Erling Haaland has insisted he did not demand a huge wage from Borussia Dortmund The striker insists he chose Dortmund over Manchester United as they were the best fit The striker has fired in seven goals in four Bundesliga games in a lightning start to his career in Germany, providing a huge boost to Dortmund. 'When the season was over, my father and I started talking,' he said. 'At that point he didn't mention Dortmund at all and then I asked him: "What about this club?" He said: "We'll see". Haaland has made a lightning start to his Dormtund career, scoring eight goals in five games 'Solskjaer has been very important for me in getting to where I am today, but we concluded that Dortmund was where I felt best about, and therefore it became Dortmund.' Erling Haaland joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January Erling Haaland insists his decision to move to Borussia Dortmund instead of Manchester United was not because of money.
United were one of 12 clubs - according to Haaland's agent Mino Raiola - to have been in talks to sign the 19-year-old striker in the January transfer window. It is understood United met the £17m buy-out clause in Haaland's RB Salzburg contract but were not keen to meet the conditions of the transfer - in particular the release clause the player's camp wanted inserted in his new deal. The Norwegian international instead joined Borussia Dortmund on a four-and-a-half-year deal, but he says his decision to move to Germany was not made through greed. Haaland has eight goals in just five games for Dortmund "No. The guys writing that would have to speak about that," Haaland told Norwegian television channel Viasport. Mino Raiola represents Paul Pogba as well as Erling Haaland But Haaland has defended the man who helped engineer his move to the Bundesliga, saying: "He's the best in the world at what he does. Erling Haaland is "very professional" and can deal with the hype surrounding him, says Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki. The young Norwegian has made a stunning start to his Dortmund career since signing from RB Salzburg in January, scoring eight goals in 270 minutes across his five appearances so far. Haaland continued those goalscoring exploits upon his arrival at Dortmund, grabbing a hat-trick from the bench to inspire a 5-3 comeback win over Augsburg on his debut. "If a young player gets hyped so much and is world-famous at 19, it can be a difficult situation," Burki told Goal and DAZN. Our attacking game works almost perfectly, we score a lot of goals.
