The portrait of father and child appears to have been taken at home and saw Musk hold X AE A-XII in one arm, wearing a blue bandanna around his neck. It is the first picture Musk has shared of himself with his and musician Grimes' son since May 5, when his name was initially announced as X Æ A-12. The picture was captioned in German and read, "Das Baby kann noch keinen Löffel benutzen." The sentence translates roughly to 'the baby can't use a spoon yet.' The birth of Musk and Grimes' son drew attention online when they initially revealed his name as X Æ A-12, which Grimes revealed included references to the "elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)", Grimes' favourite song Archangel and the A-12 jet, a "precursor" to the couple's favourite aircraft SR-17.
However, Musk and Grimes encountered issues with their first choice name as California law dictates a baby's birth certificate requires names to use "the 26 alphabetical letters of the English language" - ruling out Æ and A-12 from the document. Speaking to podcaster Joe Rogan, Musk explained how to pronounce the name. He said in May it was pronounced "X Ash Archangel." According to a birth certificate obtained by TMZ, the couple instead used Roman numerals in place of the numbers resulting in the name X AE A-XII. X AE A-XII is Musk's sixth child and his first with Grimes. Please enable cookies on your web browser in order to continue.
