North West Ambulance Service confirmed that it had taken a patient to hospital.

A person has been taken to hospital after falling from a bridge in Haslingden. Lancashire Constabulary are at the scene of the A56 which has been blocked in both directions since around 1.15pm this afternoon (January 9). North West Ambulance Service confirmed that it had taken a patient to hospital. The extent of their injuries are not yet known. A spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary confirmed that a person had fallen from the bridge.

They added: "The A56 is currently closed in both directions at the Tesco roundabout at Haslingden while we deal with an incident. Emergency services are at the scene. Please avoid the area if you can." Traffic is affected in both directions and is causing delays back to the M66. Bus services in the area have also been delayed. It is understood that the road may be closed for some time near to Tesco on Road End. A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called shortly before 1.15pm to Haslingden Bypass. "We attended with an air ambulance, an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and a senior clinician. "We have taken someone to hospital."
