Hundreds of people have been evacuated in the city centre following a suspected gas leak. Talbot Street has been closed from the junction of Canning Circus to the junction of Clarendon Street. Nottinghamshire Police were called just after noon on Wednesday (November 27). Officers said a number of properties in the area had been evacuated "in relation to a gas leak". Severe delays are expected to traffic and a cordon is in place.

Nathan Patesel, 21, a Nottingham Trent University student, who lives in student block Nova, in Talbot Street, said: "The fire alarm was going off and we had to get out. "We could smell gas outside. It reeked of it, it was really strong. "There are well over 500 people [in Nova] and whoever was in there had to get out." Follow this page for live updates.
