Matty Cash has today completed his move to Premier League outfit Aston Villa, as confirmed on the club's official website. The Reds agreed on a deal worth an initial £14 million, rising to £16 million for the highly-rated 23-year-old. Cash arrived at Forest as a 17-year-old and quickly rose through the ranks into the first-team where he became a mainstay. Last season he made the right-back spot his own after injury meant Tendayi Darikwa was ruled out for the season. Following his departure, he has taken to Instagram to thank everyone associated with Forest with a heartfelt post.
Cash leaves the club having played 141 games for the Reds in a number of different positions. He came through the ranks in the middle of the park and excelled out on loan at Dagenham in midfield. Cash then became a decent winger, before last season spending the campaign as a right-back – a position he took to with aplomb. Losing the youngster is a blow for Forest but it had to be expected among supporters. The Reds haven't been in the top-flight for over 20-years and that means Financial Fair Play hands over the club. This latest deal offers a timely reminder of the brilliant work being done by the likes of Gary Brazil at the academy. It also offers a stark reminder that if Forest want to keep hold of their prized assets, Premier League is a must sooner, rather than later.
