Kate Garraway has issued a heartfelt thank-you to fans who have helped her through her husband Derek Draper's ongoing battle with coronavirus The TV presenter has described the last few weeks as 'the hardest in her life' as she looks after her children at home while Derek, 52, battles for his life in hospital. After stepping down from her Good Morning Britain duties to support her family, Kate has been giving updates on Derek's progress as she waits for good news. As well as social media messages, the mum has also kept up her personal blog and her latest post is all about thanking her followers for their kind words. "I am sorry I have not been able to reply to them individually, as I am sure you will understand that I am focusing on my family and Derek right now." She went on: "In quieter moments I am reading all of your messages and they are so comforting and wonderful to read." (Image: kategarraway/Instagram) Derek, a former lobbyist and political adviser, was taken to hospital at the end of March. At the start of this month, Kate said he was in a coma and unresponsive after being admitted to ICU. She has since told fans he is 'battling for his life but still with us'. Sharing a video of her family taking part in the Clap For Carers weekly event, Kate wrote: "So much to be grateful for tonight. Derek is still with us but what a battle it is. (Image: PA) "So grateful too for our amazing #nhs doing so much for Derek everyday - wonderful to see all the support for them & our key workers every Thursday. We can't thank them enough can we? "So brave. Sending love to everyone during this ghastly time, particularly all those struggling for whatever reason- none of this is easy." The TV presenter also spoke out when she was forced to spend her first birthday in 16 years without Derek. Kate turned 53 in lockdown without her hubby but revealed she was grateful to have received some lovely presents from her family, friends and ITV colleagues.
