Pixar has revealed Lightyear, a new feature film based on the inspiration for Toy Story's famous Space Ranger. The film was announced by Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter during Disney's annual investor day presentation on December 10. Every Pixar Movie's Rotten Tomatoes Score 24 IMAGES Lightyear will be a "science-fiction adventure film unlike anything we've done before," explained Docter."At first glance you might think, 'Well, this is a Toy Story film. Well, not so fast. See, back when we created the very first Toy Story, we designed Buzz Lightyear with the idea that he was a toy based on some really cool character from an epic, blockbuster film.

Well, all these years later we decided it's time to make that film."Lightyear is described as an origin story for Buzz Lightyear, charting his rise from test pilot to Space Ranger. Directed by Finding Dory co-director Angus MacLane, Lightyear will star Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz and is scheduled to hit cinemas in summer 2022. Pixar made several other announcements during its presentation, including Turning Red (the debut feature from director Domee Shi, creator of Pixar's Academy Award winning short film Bao) and a trio of series coming to Disney+ (Up spin-off Dug Days, a Cars series starring Lightning McQueen and Mater, and an original series called Win or Lose which follows a co-ed school softball team in the week leading up to their championship game).
