Joey King's 2020 Golden Globes Dress Looks Like One Big Optical Illusion

The only thing more unbelievable than Joey King's role in The Act is her ensemble at this year's Golden Globes. Joey King's 2020 Golden Globes dress, by Iris van Herpen, is a legit optical illusion. A far cry from Gypsy Rose's pink pajamas, King's dress is black and white striped and boasts a high neckline with cape-like, sculptural sleeves. The actress paired the dress with white stilettos with an ankle strap and minimal jewelry by Harry Winston. In addition to minimalistic accessories, King also opted for a coordinating makeup look and minimal hair look, so as not to take the attention away from the illusion the dress plays on your eyes (and brain).

The actress' hair was pulled back into a textured low ponytail with a side part. For King's makeup, makeup artist Allan Avendaño gave her a silver metallic eye, bold black lashes, and a pale pink pout using Urban Decay products. "Joey's stylist, Jared Eng, put the starlet in an Iris van Herpen dress that was so graphic and a work of art that we opted for a wash of silver and taupe shades to give her eyes a pop of color without being too overpowering," Avendaño said in a press release shared with Elite Daily. Todd Williamson/NBC/NBCUniversal/Getty Images To create King's icy silver eye, Avendaño used Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in "Cuff" ($22, Urban Decay) all over the lids and the same product in "Mushroom" on her lash line for a slightly smoked out, yet soft look. The 20-year-old is nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Made for Television for her incredible performance as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in The Act. The 2019 Hulu-exclusive series is loosely based on a true story and triggered almost as many mind tricks as King's Golden Globes dress.

For as many viewers that couldn't take their eyes off the screen when watching The Act, I'd bet even more won't be able to stop staring at King's trippy dress during the show. Joey King wows in an Iris Van Herpen dress while making her entrance on the red carpet at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. The 20-year-old actress is at the awards show for the very first time and she's even nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her work in the Hulu series The Act. Joey King was already nominated for best actress in a TV limited series tonight at the Golden Globes; she didn't have to show up in an actual work of art on the red carpet, and yet that's exactly what she did. King showed up in a black and white Iris Van Herpen dress unlike pretty much anything else we've seen tonight, and she told Giuliana Rancic it was basically an instant yes, thanks to her stylist Jared Eng.

"He grabbed this, grabbed the Harry Winston jewels, I put it on and I was like yep, this is the look," she said. King is nominated for best actress in a limited series for her role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in The Act, Hulu's miniseries that also starred Patricia Arquette as Gypsy's abusive and ill-fated mother, Dee Dee. Mother-daughter bond! The Act star Joey King gushed about her relationship with her on-screen mom, Patricia Arquette, and revealed that the actress is like a mother figure to her ahead of the 2020 Golden Globes — where they are both up for awards. "I mean she's taught me so much. And she's just one of the greatest friends that I've ever had," Joey, 20, told In Touch and other reporters at the Gold Meets Golden Pre-Golden Globes event on Saturday, January 4.

Joey is nominated for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film at the 2020 Golden Globes for her role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu's hit TV series The Act, which is a dramatization of the true story of the murder of Gypsy's late mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Patricia, 51, is also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for her role as Dee Dee in the series. Of course, Joey is excited to be attending her first-ever Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday, January 5. "I've never been nominated for a Golden Globe before, so I'm very excited," the Kissing Booth star continued. But I'm just going to start with my glam team, I'm going to get a giant breakfast for everybody, it'll be so fun.

And my mom's going as my date, we're going to have so much fun, so I'm looking forward to that, to sharing this moment with her, to sharing it with Patricia, to just being able to say that I get to go as a nominee is a win in and of itself. I'm so grateful." Naturally, Joey was nervous to attend the Golden Globes for the first time and she explained why. "There's a lot of nerves. But I think it's just because it's of the unknown. I'm nervous because I get to be in a room with people that I admire and have admired for so many years. So, that's where the nerves are coming from," she said. "But just being there is a win of itself, like I said. I'm nervous, but I'm nervous because it's just such a big moment for me. I'm so excited."
