Rangers fans have criticised Ryan Kent for his performance in the Premiership clash against Hibernian on Wednesday night. The Gers went 1-0 down in the 35th minute, but hit back through George Edmundson, before Ianis Hagi capped a dominant second-half display with a late winner. While there were certainly signs that the team were getting back on track, there are still areas of concern for Bears, with the performances of Kent among them. The 23-year-old cost a whopping £7.5m from Liverpool on deadline day of the summer window [Sky Sports], and has since produced some moments of brilliance, including important goals on the road at Hamilton, Hibernian and Celtic. However, while he did score in the defeat at Tynecastle, his performances have been lacklustre since the winter break, with last night no exception.
Coming inside and dropping ever deeper, he's struggling to have an impact in the final third. Subscribe Of course, the team's recent struggles won't have helped his cause. There's been a lack of pace and precision in Rangers' play, robbing him of the front-foot ball on which he would usually thrive. However, there has to be greater individual creativity from the club's second most expensive ever signing. Supporters want to see more defenders beaten, earlier crosses into the box and more accurate shooting. Plenty voiced their frustrations on social media both during and after the game, with some suggesting it's time he was taken out of the team. Here's a selection of reactions: How good does Hagi look? I would give Stewart a start on Sunday, would give Kent a break. — Rangers Bantz (@RangersBanter17) February 5, 2020 Nothing coming off for Kent and if katic can be dropped for bad performances so should everyone else — John Jamieson (@jaj9soccer) February 5, 2020 I'll tell you something Kent has to do far more, his stats are poor for what we need him to do. — Yer Auld Da (@LoneRanger1993) February 5, 2020 Ryan Kent needs dropped for Stewart. — Mr rangers (@SirRangers) February 5, 2020 I'd hope that performance from Hagi puts down a marker for the rest of ref team. I'm not sure Arfield should even be starting and Kent is not doing enough just now. — BMC Rangers Rants (@BMCRangersRants) February 5, 2020 He cuts inside far too much instead of taking on defenders for pace down the line — Jamie (@JamieGersWATP) February 6, 2020 Something is going on here – he's not at the races. Worrying though don't know what it is — Jen Jen (@Doddsie16) February 6, 2020 Not sure it's as unpopular as youd think, becoming a popular view around me — ⎷ enholm ™ (@KyleDenim) February 6, 2020 100% hasn't brought anything to the team in the last 4 games very disappointing — Christopher Martin (@luigibeag91) February 6, 2020
