By James White | Posted 50 mins ago Outside of his MCU stardom, Robert Downey Jr. has had mixed results with his recent movies. And Dolittle, which has been through a few production issues and at least one release date change, might face an uphill struggle to reverse that trend. Still, judge for yourself from the first trailer. After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric Dr. John Dolittle (RDJ), famed doctor and veterinarian of Queen Victoria's England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company. The doctor is joined on his quest by a young, self-appointed apprentice (Harry Collett) and a raucous coterie of animal friends, including an anxious gorilla (Rami Malek), an enthusiastic but bird-brained duck (Octavia Spencer), a bickering duo of a cynical ostrich (Kumail Nanjiani) and an upbeat polar bear (John Cena) and a headstrong parrot (Emma Thompson), who serves as Dolittle's most trusted advisor and confidante.
Downey Jr.'s stab at a Welsh accent may not go down well in some quarters, and it's certainly not the most original-looking film. But we'll wait and see, especially when the cast also includes Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, Marion Cotillard, Carmen Ejogo, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Holland (please let him deliver a joke about dust somewhere) and Selena Gomez. Dolittle will be out in the States on 17 January and the UK on 7 February. Dolittle trailer with Robert Downey Jr. talking to the animals! Universal Pictures has released the trailer and poster for Dolittle (previously known as "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle"), starring Robert Downey Jr.

The first trailer for the new Dolittle movie starring Robert Downey Jr has dropped and it features a host of very familiar voices. It features a glimpse into what looks like a stunning live action movie, set to the strains of a new version of the old Louis Armstrong classic 'What A Wonderful World'. Looks pretty dramatic too, so now's the time to start getting excited.
We already had a poster drop for the new movie via Downey Jr's Instagram account, giving us a look at the characters involved in the live action film. He captioned the post: "'Ello Butty, check back tomorrow (9a PST) for the official #DolittleMovie trailer... Ta-ra love," followed by pretty much every animal emoji you can get. Advert In any case, the eagle-eyed among us will have noticed that the poster also confirmed the cast and what their characters look like. We already knew it had a massive cast, with well established names such as Michael Sheen and Emma Thompson confirmed, among others. But now we know it will also feature the voice talents of Selena Gomez as Betsy the giraffe, Tom Holland as Jip the dog, John Cena as Yoshi the polar bear and Rami Malek as Chee-Chee the gorilla. The official synopsis begins: "After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric Dr. John Dolittle (Downey), famed doctor and veterinarian of Queen Victoria's England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company. "But when the young queen (Jessie Buckley) falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures." Dr. Dolittle's adventures have been adapted many times, but the most famous tend to be his appearances in live-action film. The best known versions are arguably the late 90s Dr. Dolittle films, which starred Eddie Murphy. Dolittle is set in Victorian England and picks up seven years after Downey's Dolittle, an eccentric doctor who can speak to animals, lost his wife. In the years since, he has sequestered himself in his home, Dolittle Manor, with only animals to keep him company. But when the queen falls ill, he must go on a voyage to a mythical island to find a cure. Actors lending their voices to Dolittle include Tom Holland, Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, John Cena, Rami Malek, Craig Robinson, Marion Cotillard, Frances de la Tour and Carmen Ejogo. Starring in live-action roles are Antonio Banderas, Jim Broadbent and Michael Sheen. Downey played Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel movies from 2008-2019, wrapping up his run with April's Avengers: Endgame, which stands as the highest grossing film of all time.
