ICSE postpones 10th, 12th board exams due to coronavirus outbreak

ICSE board has postponed its class 10, 12 examinations due to coronavirus outbreak, the official said. CISCE chief executive Gerry Arahtoon said on Thursday that the board exams have been postponed till March 31. The ICSE 2020 examination was scheduled to end on March 30 and the ISC 2020 exam was scheduled to end on March 31. "In view of the novel coronavirus (Covid- 19) spreading across the country and with much uncertainty and speculation in the air, the council in the interest of the health and well being of the students and teaching community, has decided to postpone all ICSE and ISC Year 2020 examinations scheduled to be conducted between the period 19th March 2020 to 31st March 2020. The revised dates for conduct of the remaining papers shall be notified in due course of time," the official notice reads.

Earlier, on Wednesday CBSE had postponed its class 10th, 12th board exams till March 31 after the Indian government ordered to postpone all exams to prevent the spreading of coronavirus in the country. Complete list of exams, entrance and recruitment tests postponed and rescheduled in wake of coronavirus outbreak States including, Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh among others have ordered the closure of schools, colleges, gyms, night clubs and also advised the corporate offices to allow their employees to work from home. Various exams including the recruitment exams and CBSE, ICSE board exams have also been suspended till March 31 throughout the country, in order to contain the further spread of the coronavirus. Here is the list of exams being cancelled or rescheduled in wake of the coronavirus outbreak: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has also decide to postponed its admission tests for class sixth and ninth. Earlier the exams were scheduled to take place on March 22 and March 29 respectively.

Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) also postponed Bihar D.El.Ed Joint Entrance Exam 2020 in wake of the coronavirus. The MHRD has postponed the JEE Main 2020 exam till March 31. Earlier the JEE Main exam 2020 was scheduled to take place on April 5, 7, 9 and 11. UGC has asked all the Universities and Colleges to postpone exams till March 31, 2020. The CBSE on Wednesday evening informed that the board exams for class 10th and 12th has been postponed till March 31 in view of the coronavirus.

The board also said that the revised dates for the exams will be notified by March 31 after the reassessment of the situation. The UP government on Wednesday announced that students of classes 1 to 8 in all UP government schools will be promoted without giving the exmas. The government also announced closure of all educational institute till April 2 in the state. IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi has also suspended its classes and postponed the exams till March 31. ICSE and ISE board exams were also postponed till March 31 by the board after the UGC recommendation.

The board also said that the revised dates will be announced in due course of time. The board of school education Haryana (BSEH) has also postponed the remaining class 10 and 12 board exams scheduled from March 19 to March 31 in view of the coronavirus. The Haryana government also cancelled the annual examinations for class 1 to class 8 in all private and government schools. The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) recruitment exam for the post of constable in the border guarding force was postponed due to the coronavirus, The exam was scheduled to take place on March 22 across 11 cities in the country. Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) also postponed the exam for the recruitment of assistant engineer till March 31.

The exams were earlier scheduled to take place on March 21, 22, 28 and 29. Earlier the exam was scheduled to be conducted on March 14 and March 15. The Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) has also postponed several recruitment exams in view of the coronavirus. The Council's decision comes a day after the Union Human Resource Development Ministry asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and all are the boards to postpone ongoing exams for classes 10 and 12. All the exams including University exams, Joint Entrance Examination mains (JEE) mains and National Institute of Open Learning (NIOS) have also been asked to be postponed on Wednesday. The CBSE has stated that rescheduled dates will be made known to the stakeholders by March 31 after reassessment of the situation. Several states such as Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, have ordered the shutdown of schools and colleges after more COVID-19 cases came to light. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has asked education institutions to maintain regular communication to avoid anxiety among students, teachers and parents. Several parents had written emails to the board and had taken to social media platforms raising concerns over the examinations and the COVID-19 outbreak. The ministry stated that while maintenance of the academic calendar and exam schedule is important, equally important is the safety and security of the students, teachers, and parents. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has led to a slew of examinations getting postponed, both at the central level and the individual states. CBSE and ICSE/ISC board examinations for Classes X and XII scheduled between March 19 and 31 will be postponed to a later date, so will be the JEE Main examinations held for admission into engineering colleges. Keeping in view the health concerns of Students, I directed CBSE and NIOS to postpone exams and evaluation till 31st March 2020. After 151 people were reported to be COVID-19 positive, the governments have taken swift action to ensure that students are not exposed to the infection. Similarly, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations announced on March 19 that all examinations for Class X and XII will be postponed. Both the Class X and XII board examinations for CBSE, ICSE and ISC would have concluded by March 31. Among the other boards, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has also suspended all examinations to be held till March 31. The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main which was to be held between April 7-12, 2020 has also been rescheduled by the National Testing Agency. JEE Main is the entrance exam for admission to the undergraduate programmes across engineering institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) as well as private engineering colleges. With respect to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 to be held on May 3, 2020 for admission into undergraduate medical education programmes, there was an expectation that it will be postponed. However, no such decision has yet been taken by the National Testing Agency.
