Should Kevin O'Brien now take public transport when lining out for Leinster Lightning at Pembroke Cricket Club? If only to protect his own car, after smashing a six that damaged the windscreen during Thursday's Inter-Provincial Twenty 20 Trophy match against North-West Warriors. O'Brien's ability to send the ball sailing over the rope is well-known, and he did so eight times in a stunning 82 from only 37 balls. However, a tweet from Cricket Ireland, which showed the damage to his car is what garnered most attention after Leinster Lightning's victory. And it's not the first time that O'Brien has made headlines in this way.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport's John Kenny he said: "It's the second time I've hit my own car here in Pembroke. "At a training session two months ago I put a dent in the passenger door. I probably shouldn't park as close to the pitch as I usually do. "A bit unlucky, as I thought I parked under the tree to shade it a bit. The ball must have snuck through the leaves and the branches and straight through the window. "And so at the end of the innings, I'm frantically on the phone to see who can fix it."
