Exeter City will look to make it four wins in a row when they travel to Southend United on Saturday afternoon. The Shrimpers sit in the relegation zone, having lost six of their seven games this season, but Matt Taylor said that he is still expecting a tough tie at Roots Hall. Dating back to last season when they were relegated from League One, Southend have suffered 12 defeats in 14 fixtures, and in the last 12 months, have only won games in all competitions, and have just scored three goals in seven games this season. In contrast, the Grecians have won three games in a row, have hit the net 13 times, and are back in their usual play-off positions. Taylor has an almost full squad to choose from – only Nicky Law is a doubt after missing training this week while awaiting the results of a coronavirus test after coming down with a non-COVID-19 related illness, while Blues boss Mark Molesley brought in Tottenham Hotspur striker Kaziah Sterling on loan in a bid to strengthen his side.
Saturday afternoon's clash will be the first time that the two sides have met since 2015, and City have avoided defeat on three of their last four trips to Essex. The game will again be played behind closed doors, but can be viewed on iFollow or by following the blog below As a subscriber, you are shown 80% less display advertising when reading our articles.
