Sunderland will remain on home soil for tonight's Sky Bet League One meeting with Burton Albion. Originally due to take place in September, this rescheduled fixture will kick-off at 7.45pm at the Stadium of Light with the Black Cats searching for three points. Benji Kimpioka proved to be an inspired substitution on Saturday when his 90th minute goal earned the Lads a point against Coventry City. However, the Lads were left largely frustrated as two big decisions went against them and meant they were forced to settle for just a point. Tonight's game provides Phil Parkinson's side with a chance to make up some lost ground as they have games in hand on a number of sides above them.
Three points would put the Black Cats on the cusp of the play-off places and just two points off third-place Peterborough United. However, standing in Sunderland's way is a Burton Albion side who have never lost on Wearside. That said, the Brewers have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions and sit 15th in League One after 15 games. Having collected just two points from a possible nine in their last three games, Nigel Clough's side fell to a 91st minute winner on Saturday at promotion hopefuls Peterborough United. That result came after successive draws in the league away at Doncaster Rovers and at home to Simon Grayson's Blackpool to leave them with 20 points. Sunderland will be boosted by Jordan Willis' fitness after he went off early on Saturday. Conor McLaughlin is set to return after serving his one-game suspension, but George Dobson is out after picking up his fifth yellow card. Marc McNulty, Charlie Wyke and Lynden Gooch remain out.
