Players could potentially make millions of pounds by earning a percentage of their future transfer fee due to a change in Fifa's regulations that has largely gone under the radar. Fifa made an amendment to the definition of what is considered a third party. Previously it was stated that a third party was anyone other than the two clubs transferring a player, or a former club of that player. There was no mention of the player and since third-party ownership has been banned by Fifa, it meant that a player could not technically earn a portion of their transfer fee. The amendment makes it clear that players are not considered a third party to a transfer.
