Today, the Green Bay Packers will face the Houston Texans, but will do so with a lineup that is missing a few critical pieces.
The Packers ruled out four starters for this afternoon's game, with Aaron Jones, David Bakhtiari, Kevin King, and Darnell Savage all sitting out. Jones' absence is especially disappointing, as it was a mid-week injury that cost him his availability for this game. Furthermore, Houston's run defense is the worst in the NFL, and Jones should have had some significant running room in this game. In the secondary, look for Josh Jackson to start his second straight game in place of King, while Will Redmond and Raven Greene should take over the bulk of the workload for Savage on the back end. It should be tough sledding today for this Packers team, but at least the team has one of its offensive contributors in uniform today.
Jones was listed as questionable and traveled to Houston with the team. As usual, however, the Green Bay medical staff erred on the side of caution. Missing Jones is a big blow to the Packers offense. The running back is a do-it-all weapon who can bowl over defenders between the tackles, sprint away from defensive backs in the open field, catch passes downfield and act as Aaron Rodgers' top release valve. In five games this season, Jones generated 389 yards and five TDs on 75 carries and added 18 catches for 161 yards and two more scores.
This came after a Week 4 outing in which he had six receptions for 98 yards and a highly impressive three touchdowns. Tonyan sat out Wednesday and Thursday practice with an ankle injury. He got in a limited workout on Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans. Which kind of performance can we expect from Tonyan in Week 7 and does he belong in your starting lineup? Tonyan is currently the seventh leading fantasy scorer at the tight end position this season. Week 6 was tough for the Packers offense as a whole and owners should not place too much stock in that performance. Tonyan has earned the trust of Aaron Rodgers, which is a proven value booster in fantasy football. The tight end position is always hard to fill with a reliable player, and Tonyan has made the case that he can be that elusive component for fantasy mangers. If he is active, look for him to bounce back against a weak Houston defense and start him as a TE1 in Week 7. Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation Start Robert Tonyan as a TE1, but keep an eye on the inactive news at 11:30 a.m. Texans vs. The Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers announced their Week 7 inactives for Sunday. The Houston Texans have five players listed on their Week 7 inactives including tight end Jordan Akins. This season, Akins has played in four games where he has 14 receptions for 168 yards with one touchdown, averaging 12 yards per reception. Akins hasn't played since Oct. 4 against the Minnesota Vikings when he caught three passes for 46 yards. Akins hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 1. Also listed as inactive for Week 7 for the Houston Texans are: wide receiver Keke Coutee, cornerback John Reid, inside linebacker Peter Kalambayi, and offensive tackle Charlie Heck. These inactives are the usual players listed by the Texans this season. Kalambayi was the only other player listed on the injury report this week. Packers News: Who is listed as inactive for Green Bay? For the Green Bay Packers their inactives include running back Aaron Jones which is a big loss for the Packers. Green Bay won't have a running back that has 65 carries for 374 yards with four touchdowns. Jones is averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Jones is out due to a strained calf muscle suffered in practice. With the Houston Texans run defense being as poor as they are, the Packers can still use Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon to power through the rush defense of the Texans. Other Green Bay Packers inactives are the following players: #Packers inactives vs. RB Aaron Jones DL Tyler Lancaster Jones is a HUGE loss to the offense. The game will air on FOX at noon CT with the Houston Texans entering the game at 1-5, while the Packers are 4-2.
