A second crash on the M5 motorway is causing traffic chaos. Emergency services are on the scene after a car ended up on its roof, leaving the road blocked. The incident happened on the M5 northbound between Junctions 18 and 17 around an hour ago. Traffic was stropped while police, fire and ambulance crews made their way to the scene. It comes after a serious crash this morning involving a car and a lorry which left a woman in hospital with serious head injuries.
The incident happened just before 6am on the M5 Southbound carriageway between junctions 22 and 23. It is understood the A38 is also affected as traffic diverts onto the main road to avoid the motorway closure. A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the female driving the car had to be cut out of her vehicle and the lorry driver treated for shock. Highways England says delays of up to two hours can be expected in the area. Live updates will appear in the blog below:
