During a livestream fan event for the second film's release, actress Joey King revealed the news saying the third film was quietly shot in tandem with the second in South Africa. Vince Marcello, who adapted and directed the first two films from Beth Reekles' novels, is currently in post-production on the film which begins the summer before Elle heads to college and she has a secret decision to make.

The Kissing Booth 3 was filmed in secret at the same time as the second movie in the trilogy, which is currently streaming on Netflix. The movies are adapted from Newport's young adult author, Beth Reekles, who started writing teen fiction when she was just 15-years-old. The announcement was made on Netflix's Twitter account on Sunday evening with a video of the cast. Beth's novel was first published in 2012 by Random House, when the now 25-year-old was just 17. The film rights were sold to a UK-based production company Komixx in 2013, who brought on Vince Marcello, the script writer, to help turn it into a movie. The first movie, The Kissing Booth, landed on Netflix in 2018 and was the most re-watched movie on the platform that year. RadioTimes reported that the third movie is currently in post-production and it picks up right where the second movie's cliffhanger leaves viewers. The summer before main character Elle heads off to college, she is yet to decide between heading to Harvard where boyfriend Noah attends or Berkeley, where her best friend Lee - who is Noah's brother - is heading. All the original cast are back for the third movie which is bound to be a hit. There are four books in the Kissing Booth Series, however none take the story beyond what we see in the Kissing Booth 2. There are two short stories that Beth wrote, The Beach House, and The Kissing Booth: Road Trip! but The Kissing Booth 3, as a book, has not been released yet so the plot is not yet known. However, Beth has confirmed that she is on board with the making of the trilogy. She announced on Twitter: "Thank you so much everybody! I'm totally over the moon that we're doing a third one (and yes, with all the same cast!) "It's been tough keeping this secret from you all but thank you for all the lovely messages about #TheKissingBooth3! Your support is everything to me."
