They're Christmas traditions for many a family. And there's the bonus of The Snowman and The Snowdog. But when are they on this year? The classic animation - first shown on December 26, 1982 - is based on Raymon Briggs 1978 picture book and follows a young boy whose snowman comes to life.

When is The Snowman - and The Snowman and The Snowdog - on TV?

It features The Snowdog, with mismatched socks for ears and a satsuma for a nose. You may already have them recorded or on DVD but, if not here's when you can watch them on TV over the festive period: The Snowman airs on Christmas Eve on Channel 4 at 3.50pm It is then repeated on the channel on Christmas Day at 12.45pm and immediately followed by The Snowman and the Snowdog at 1.20pm.
