But the quality of the broadcast and a host of technical errors left them feeling deflated when it came to both the pay-per-view service and the commentators analysis. After a jam-packed undercard, it was time for Katie Taylor to take on Delfine Persoon for the second time in her career, before Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin clashed in the main event.
But as the Irish fighter made her way to the ring, the broadcast cut out for those who had paid £20 for the Sky Sports action. To add, the sound also went - as viewers took to social media to vent their frustrations. "Sky Sports coverage is a shambles rn #WhytePovetkin," one wrote. "Please sort out the sound for the katie taylor fight.. €25 euro for c*** sound," one tweeted.
"Sort out the coverage!" a third wrote. "Sort out this bloody #boxing feed please! £20 for this is ridiculous," one said. "Pictures and sounds keeps going, footage out of sync with sound. What's going on???? £20 mind...." a fifth added. And there was also mistakes from the presenting and commentary team, who labelled Irish-born fighter Taylor a '2012 team GB athlete'. It is safe to say the Irish viewers did not take kindly to the mistake either. "Just so you know, irelands Katie Taylor was not a team mate of Anthony Joshua on the GB Olympic team....shes our hero..please dont try and steal her," one said. "When sky sports call Katie Taylor a GB Olympian..." one added. One wrote: "According to Sky Katie Taylor was on the 2012 GB Olympic Team Thinking face#britsareatitagain" "Team GB Olympian Katie Taylor" oh dear oh dear who knew Bray was in the UK, a fourth said. "So Katie Taylor was team GB in 2012, didn't know that," joked another. Taylor won the bout, as the judges gave the Irishwoman the nod on cards of 98-93, 96-94 and 96-94. Katie Taylor had the eyes of the country in the buildup to her world title defence tonight, but it didn't stop Sky claiming her as British for the 1000th time. The Sky team, including Anthony Joshua, were discussing the Bray native when presenter Anna Woodhouse labelled her as a former Team GB athlete. Unsurprisingly, this didn't go down well. In other news, Katie Taylor was just introduced on the telly as a Team GB Olympic athlete so that's another disasterclass. — Richard Chambers (@newschambers) August 22, 2020 Advertisement Katie Taylor a member of Team GB at the 2012 Olympics according to Anna Woolhouse on @SkySportsBoxing.
